Sunday,
September 28, 2008 - As more than 15,000 participants from the metropolitan area and
across the country prepared to retrace the heroic path Stephen Siller took from
the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center
on 9/11, On Site Energy was busy setting up Green Power electrical
distribution points along the way. This event has raised over $5 million for
burn victims, orphans, Katrina relief and other causes since it started seven
years ago. OSEC had supplied power after both World Trade Center terror attacks,
first to the Towers themselves and second to the surrounding areas and was
proud to be a part of this event.
The annual run/walk followed the path Firefighter Stephen Siller
took on 9/11. Heroic Firefighter Stephen
Siller, father of five, raced on foot with 75 pounds of gear
strapped to his back through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade
Center Towers
and laid down his life for others that day. The “Tunnel to Towers Run/Walk”
honors not only Stephen, but also the memory of all those who perished on that
fateful day.
OSEC provided power solutions by placing sound attenuated generators along the carnival-like
celebration. These ultra quite and
environmentally friendly generators powered vendor tents that served food to
the race competitors and power for entertainment areas. The entertainment areas
provided special games for children, including face painting, clowns, and
balloons. Among the participants this year, The London Bridge, a contingent of
150 firefighters from England, and members of the U.S. military (including the
Wounded Warriors) were on hand to honor the fallen, famed performance artist
Michael Israel created a patriotic water color live, as the firefighters march
in formation from their positions in the tunnel, former New York City Mayor
Rudolph Giuliani attended, academy award-nominated actors John Tuturro and
Danny Aiello also attended.
Joe
Gere, Director of Entertainment & Special Events at On Site Energy stated
“We are very happy to be a part of this year’s event and be able to showcase
our newest product PEACH (Packaged Electric Air Conditioning Heating). The PEACH unit is a direct result of our experiences at Ground
Zero and other disaster sites.”
Dennis French, Project Coordinator for PEACH sales & rentals at On Site Manufacturing
said, “With PEACH we were able to provide power and cooling to the NYFD dignitary
tent near the finish line. PEACH is our new state of the art first responder emergency
equipment which utilizes a 45 kW generator for electricity, with a 10 ton
air conditioner for cooling, and a distribution panel that provides [6]
110V power outlets for accessories. During initial set-up of the NYFD tent PEACH's 3,000
watt roof mounted command lights were used to provide lighting in the early
morning hours”. Several New York Fire
Department personnel were overheard commenting, "How many of these PEACH
units are we getting and when are mine arriving?”
